Summary of Proposed Changes for Admissions

The Derby Diocesan Academy Trust 2 (DDAT2) is the Admissions Authority for school and has delegated all matters relating to admission to the Local Governing Body of Loscoe Church of England Primary School and Nursery. The Local Authority co-ordinates admissions, acting as a ‘clearing house’ for all admissions, including in-year admissions, and enables parents to express a preference for one, two or three schools. Parents can apply online at www.derbyshire.gov.uk/admissions. If you do not have access to the internet you can apply by ringing Call Derbyshire on 01629 533190. Applications should be returned by the closing date for applications. In all cases admissions will be made via the Local Authority’s Centralised Admission System.

 

The Admissions Policy has been adopted by the Local Governing Body and will operate from September 2021. It applies to all applications for the school year 2021-22 onwards.

 

All decisions relating to admission applications will be taken by the Local Governing Body of the school.

 

When the school is oversubscribed, after the admission of pupils with a Statement of Special Educational Needs or an Education, Health and Care Plan where the school is named within the document, priority for admission will be given to children who meet the admissions criteria set out below, in order:

 

  1. Looked after children and children who were looked after but ceased to be so because they were adopted (or became subject to a child arrangement order or special guardianship order).
  2. Children from families living in the normal area served by the school with siblings. Older siblings should be attending at the time of application and admission. (See footnote 1 and map in appendix 1)
  3. Children living in the normal area served by the school at the time of application and admission. (See map in appendix 1)
  4. Children from families not living in the normal area served by the school with siblings. Older siblings should be attending at the time of application and admission. (See map in appendix 1 and footnote 1)
  5. Other children whose parents have requested a place.

 

Where, in the case of 2, 3, 4 or 5 above, choices have to be made between children satisfying the same criteria, those children living nearest to the school (measured in a straight line) will be given preference.

 

Route Measurement: The Children’s Services Department has a Geographic Information System (GIS) to measure the straight-line distance. It is measured by a standard straight-line distance calculated to within two metres. This measurement is taken from the postal address file, normally the house front door. For schools the grid reference is taken from the postal address file and will normally be the centre of the school for primary phase schools.

Admission into the Nursery does not guarantee a place at the Primary School.

The school considers the ‘normal’ catchment area to be addresses within the area marked on the map published within our Admissions Policy and on Derbyshire County Council’s website.

 

Footnote 1

‘Siblings’ means a child who lives as a brother or sister in the same house, including natural brothers or sisters with either one or both parents in common, adopted brothers or sisters, step brothers or sisters, foster brothers or sisters, or the child of a parent’s partner where the child for whom the school place is sought is living in the same family unit at the same address as that sibling.
