Loscoe C of E Primary School and Nursery

We may be small, but together we can make a big difference.

Christian Values

This term we are focusing on the value of friendship. Friendship is such an important value in society. We spend so much time with our friends, joyful times and sad. It's important that we know how to nurture such friendships so that we can grow and be valued by friends as the unique individuals that we are.

Friendship is a key concept within the Christian framework. Jesus for example was cricticised for being 'the friend of sinners' and for eating with those whom society rejected. At Loscoe Church of England Primary School and Nursery, we strive to not only be a good friends to those who are friends with us but to see everyone as friend because we are all made in God's image and we all children of God.

The Bible has many sayings about friendship:

‘A friend loves at all times.’ (Proverbs 17:17)

Friends are not afraid to tell each other the truth and a friend’s loving criticism is worth more than the empty compliments of someone who does not really care for you.

‘Wounds from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy multiplies kisses.’ (Proverbs 27:6)

The writer of Ecclesiastes puts it very simply: ‘if one falls down, a friend can lift him up’. (Ecclesiastes 4:10)

The friendship of David and Jonathan is very strongly emphasised in the Bible, Abraham is described as the friend of God (James 2:23) and Jesus explicitly calls his disciples not servants but friends (John 15:14 - 15).

Our faith can move mountains ~ Matthew 17:20

Christian Values at Loscoe C of E Primary School and Nursery

At our school all pupils are valued and nurtured as individuals in a place where the Christian values of love, compassion, friendship, trust, justice, respect and forgiveness are embedded into every area of school life.

Pupils are taught to apply the Christian principles of ‘love your neighbour as yourself’, and ‘treat others as you would want to be treated yourself’, into their lives both in school and outside in the wider community.

Both staff and pupils have the opportunity to explore their own beliefs set in an environment of openness, acceptance, tolerance and honesty. Our school is a place where all have the opportunity to consider their understanding of the Christian faith, what it means to them and how it impacts on their lives.

Our school motto:-

“We may be small but together we can make a big difference"

gives all an opportunity to not only value their own skills and abilities by working together, but also consider the role of faith and belief in God and how it can play an important part in their lives.
