Meet our committed team of governors......
Peter Wood - Chair of Governors
Governor Specialism - Finance, Performance Management and Standards Committee, Numeracy, Prior Higher Achievers and Assessment.
My name is Peter Wood and I have been a Governor for approximately 12 years, the last 11 as the Chair of Governors. I originally began working as a Governor because my daughter, Emma, was at Loscoe School and I felt I could help in her education by being involved with the school. I have been helping year 6 children with their reading and math which I find very rewarding.
Sarah Tew - Executive Head Teacher
Governor Specialism - All
I became head teacher at Loscoe Church of England Primary in 2011. Before that I was a head teacher in a small village school, Kirk Langley, also in Derbyshire. I have also worked for the local authority as a literacy consultant which was a very privileged job. The time has flown by since I joined the Loscoe team! I think this is because I love the school: the children, the staff and the community. There is always something happening and we are always trying to make ourselves the best we can be. Staff and governors are so proud of our school and really believe that ‘we may be small but we can make a difference’. We make a difference to ourselves, each other, our families, our communities and the wider world. We are an amazing school family!
Mr Wood has been the Chair of Governors since I started and Mrs Giles was also a governor too. They both interviewed me in 2011. They are a huge support to our school and I am very grateful that they have been governors.
In 2017 I also started working at another Derbyshire Church School, St Laurence Primary in Long Eaton, Derbyshire. We learn a lot from each other and share many ideas.

I first became a school governor in 2000, and am now Vice Chair of Governors. I became a Foundation Governor in 2015. During my long association with the school I have come to care greatly about the school, the staff and the children.
As a Foundation Governor I am helping to support the Christian ethos of the school and am helping to strengthen the bond between Loscoe Primary School and Nursery and St Luke's Church.

My name is Chris Layhe-Humphreys, I joined Loscoe Primary School in September 2013. I am employed as an Assistant Headteacher and teach in a mixed Year 5/6 class. I became the staff governor in 2018, I bring an understanding of the school's ethos and culture as well as a close, professional knowledge of our strengths and areas for development.
Governor Specialism - Vocabulary
My name is Amber Painter and I joined the governing body as a parent governor in July 2018. I currently have a son at Loscoe School and his elder brother will shortly be starting his A-Levels at Heanor Gate Science College.
I am keen to help spread the schools message that although we may be small, together we can make a big difference and feel we are very lucky to have a great teaching team to help support and nurture our little human beings! Hopefully in my role as parent governor I can help support this.
Outside of school I am a Director for a local company and have over 15 years experience in Health and Safety and Finance.
Governor Specialism - Sports/PE
Governor Specialism - spelling
My name is Peter Townsend and I am a retired junior schoolteacher. I became a co-opted Governor in January 2020. I taught for a total of 35 years in three Derbyshire Junior Schools, the first of which was Loscoe Denby Lane in 1978 until 1982. I hope my experience in education will be of benefit to the school of which I have fond memories. I am known at the school as “Lord Loscoe”, playing keyboard at times throughout the year to support school events. At present, I am the Governor with responsibility for spelling.
Governor Specialism -
My name is Emma Wells and I joined the school as a parent governor in April 2020. I have a son and daughter at Loscoe School, and felt the time was right to take a more pro active role in the school. It's really vital that parents views are represented in school, but also that as parents we support the school in upholding their values and vision. I'm a Project Manager with experience in Finance, Social Housing and IT and hopefully I'll bring some of this experience to my governors role.
